The Best Rooftops in Charleston, SC

One of my favorite aspects of living in Charleston is that rooftop season lasts nearly all year round. Whether you're seeking stunning views, a lively party atmosphere, excellent food and drinks, or a combination of these, Charleston has a rooftop spot to suit everyone’s tastes. Here’s a roundup of my personal favorites.

I love Ritual for so many reasons—it's probably my favorite rooftop in Charleston. The Tulum-inspired decor and lush greenery create a vibrant atmosphere both indoors and out. The space features a large open patio, two covered outdoor bars, and a spacious indoor bar and dining area. Unlike many aesthetically pleasing spots, Ritual excels in its food. Their elevated Mexican-style bites are some of my favorites, and the cocktails are unique, delicious, and fun. On weekends, the place takes on a livelier party vibe, but with plenty of space to spread out, it’s always a good time.

Address: 145 Calhoun Street Unit 301

Good For: Large groups; foodies

What to Order: Espresso Martini Flight, El Jefe Caliente, Empanadas, Swordfish Ceviche

The Watch is my top choice for well-rounded views of Charleston. Its multiple rooftop areas and central location offer impressive vistas of both the Ravenel Bridge and downtown Charleston. We brought friends here for the 4th of July and found it to be the perfect spot, with excellent views of numerous Charleston fireworks displays. The all-you-can-eat Southern buffet was also a standout and did not disappoint. Additionally, if you prefer staying indoors, there's a spacious dining room with fantastic views.

Address: 75 Wentworth Street

Good For: 4th of July, indoor dining with a view

What to Order: Romeros’s Bad Habit, Crispy Buffalo Brussels, Lobster Ricotta Gnocchi

The Vendue was the first rooftop I visited when we road-tripped to Charleston to explore the possibility of moving here—and, as it turns out, we did move, so that says a lot! Located on East Bay Street, near popular tourist spots like the Pineapple Fountain, Rainbow Row, and The Battery, it's an ideal place to unwind with a drink or bite during your explorations. While it can be a bit pricey, the views of the Ravenel Bridge and Cooper River are among the best in Charleston.

Address: 19 Vendue Range

Good For: The views; close proximity to tourist attractions

What to Order: Sunset Spritz

Satellite Bar, the newly remodeled rooftop space atop Stars Restaurant, is a fantastic spot to start your evening or take a break while exploring King Street. The rooftop bar features a couple of TVs for catching games, along with table seating, lounge areas, and a spacious patio. While they serve only drinks on the rooftop, you can head downstairs to Stars for a full meal once you’re done sipping.

Address: 495 King Street

Good For: A pre-dinner cocktail before dining downstairs at Stars; close proximity to King Street, catching a game

What to Order: Ring of Fire

This spot has a laid-back, party vibe, with its rooftop frequently featuring DJs and live music, especially on weekends. You can enjoy your choice of Revelry Brewing Co. beer, or opt for cider or wine if beer isn’t your preference. They’ve also recently partnered with Fugazzi, offering delicious bites from the chef behind Porchetta Shop. Pro tip: it’s one of the stops on the LowCountry Beer Trolley route (free on Saturdays), perfect for a day of brewery hopping.

Address: 10 Conroy Street

Good For: Beer lovers

What to Order: Poke the Bear, Porchetta Cubano

This is likely the most popular rooftop in Charleston if you were to take a poll. It’s a fantastic place to catch the sunset and enjoy sweeping views of the city, especially Marion Square. With its spacious layout, you’re almost guaranteed to find plenty of room for your group to hang out and enjoy the evening.

Henry’s is an excellent choice if you’re near the market and in the mood for a drink or a bite to eat. With four levels, there’s ample space to spread out and enjoy a variety of live music. The rooftop, in particular, is expansive and features turf grass, a porch swing, full-size mirrors, several bars, and table service.

Address: 54 N Market Street

Good For: Groups, live music

If you're looking to escape the downtown cityscape and enjoy a waterfront view, this is the spot for you. Located in Isle of Palms, The Boathouse offers excellent waterfront dining and features a small rooftop area for elevated views. It’s one of my personal favorite spots for watching the sunset in Charleston, so I highly recommend visiting around that time.

Good For: Waterfront dining, sunset views

What to Order: Oysters, Jalapeno Margarita, whatever’s on special!

Red’s is a fantastic option if you want to escape downtown and enjoy waterfront views. Head up to the ‘Crow’s Nest’ to find a rooftop bar with stunning views of Shem Creek and waterfront seating, perfect for spotting dolphins. On weekends, especially during the summer, be ready for a lively crowd.
