The Best Rooftops in Charleston, SC

One of my favorite things about living in Charleston is that rooftop season is almost literally all year round. Whether you’re looking for one with great views, a fun party vibe, excellent food & drinks or a little bit of all of the above, there’s a rooftop in Charleston for everyone. Here’s a round-up of my personal faves.

Ritual

I love Ritual for so many reasons - and it’s probably my favorite rooftop in Charleston. First of all, the vibes, ambiance & aesthetic of this spot alone are worth a visit. You’ll find Tulum-inspired decor & tons of greenery both indoors and out. There’s a large open-patio area, two outdoor-covered bar areas, and a large indoor bar + dining area. A lot of time places with a great ambiance & view have pretty basic, uninspired food & cocktails that are just 'okay’. Not Ritual. Their elevated Mexican-style bites are some of my favorite — and the cocktails are unique, tasty & fun. On weekends you’ll get a bit more of a party vibe from this spot, while weekdays, especially post-work, are much more low key.

Good For: Large groups; foodies

What to Order: Espresso Martini Flight, El Jefe Caliente, Empanadas, Swordfish Ceviche, Ritual Caesar

The Watch

The Watch is my pick for well-rounded views of Charleston. Multiple rooftop areas mean you get a great shot of both the Ravenel bridge as well as the rest of downtown Charleston. The food and cocktails are on point as well. We brought friends here for the 4th of July and found it to be the perfect spot with great views of MANY Charleston firework shows. They had a huge all-you-can eat southern buffet that did not disappoint. The outdoor rooftop spaces are a little on the smaller side, but if you go at the right time you’ll have no problem snagging a spot - and there’s a larger, indoor dining room with great views as well if you can’t or if you prefer being inside.
